Mirrors are not only functional and decorative, they  can also become an architectural element. Placed where it will reflect a window and its view, a mirror can act almost as an additional window. It will increase the amount of light in a room and hence make the room appear larger.

Placement of mirrors should follow the same general rules as those for hanging artwork. Make sure a mirror is positioned at such a height that people can see their reflections without having their heads cut off.

If you are placing a mirror above a mantel, hang it rather than having it lean as this way it will only reflect the ceiling.
