Frequently asked Questions and Answers

Q:  I would like to hang a mirror or a framed print above my couch. How big should it be?

A:  Wall art needs to be appropriate to furniture size. The picture frame or a mirror over your couch should not be longer than the width of the couch. As a general rule the frame length should not exceed 80% of the length of your furniture item.

Q: How high do I place my artwork?

A: Your framed pictures should be hung at eye level even if you have high ceilings.

Q: What size framed print should I hang on my wall?

A: Match your wall art and wall size. The picture needs to be relative to the size of the wall so that it is esthetically pleasing to the eye. Smaller frames look better on narrow walls, while larger framed images or a grouping of frames are best hung on large walls. One large piece of framed art can serve as a focal point in a room. If you allow ample space on either side of the art work, say 900mm to 1500mm you will create a sense of drama and luxury by the use of negative space.

Q:I have a series of prints I would like to hang in the stair well. How do I go about it?

A: These prints will most likely be arranged in a diagonal line following the line of the stairs. Position them  evenly along the stairs.Use the centres of the treds to centre your art work and keep the height above stair tred uniform eg. 1400mm to the bottom of the frame.

Q: I have a number of smaller images and would like to create a collage effect on a wall. What is the best way to go about it?

A: Clustering artwork on a wall will give the grouping a casual organic look. Create a focal point by using larger images in the centre and work outward with smaller ones.Test the arrangement by laying the pictures out on the floor first. To replicate the exact pattern, lay the pictures on paper and trace the outside of each frame. Tape the paper to the wall and use it as a template.

Q: If I wanted to change the position of my prints on the wall but not put holes in the wall what should I use?

A: If you are not keen to put more holes in your wall and you want the flexibility of being able to move and change prints with ease,a gallery type hanging system would be suitable. We stock and recomend the Arti Teq system. Easy to install and intergrate into your interior. By hanging and sliding wires in the rail with optional picture hooks you can create a sleek and flexible suspension for you artwork.

Q: We are worried our prints will fade in a room where there is a lot of light. How can we prevent that ?

A: It is best to keep artwork away from direct sunlight but you can also use UV filtering glass or any of the other conservation type glass.
